Fat is called “liquid gold” due to its properties to restore the quality of the skin. Fat helps in restoring and creating contours in the face, the breasts, the buttocks or other parts of the body by a process called as “structural fat grafting”. Harvested fat may be processed by passing it through different filters to create microfat or nanofat which may be injected in the skin for rejuvenations and reduction of scars, folds, wrinkles or pigmentation. Fat is harvested by cannula through small puncture sites from the tummy, inner thighs, love handles or other fat filled skin folds. These puncture sites leave almost no scars at all. Structural fat grafting also helps in improving the quality of the skin due to the growth factors present in the fat. Fat grafting is also done as a reconstructive procedure in some conditions like hemifacial atrophy and craniofacial clefts. The regenerative properties of fat are made use of in the procedure called Nanofat grafting primarily used for treatment of dark circles, undereye pigmentation, scars (facial or otherwise) and facial skin rejuvenation. The growth factors in the fat helps to bring in collagen and other proteins that help in repair of damaged skin. Processed nanofat is injected intradermally to give a perfect and long lasting glow to the skin.
The flip side of fat grafting is the probability of losing some of the injected fat due to fat absorption. There are some restrictions that need to be followed after fat grafting like avoidance of massaging on that part of the face that need to be followed. There is minimal chances of complications in this surgery.
